| "CUTTER" TOP DERBY DOG 2003
Congratulations to Bill Hillman and Hawkeye's Coast Guard, known by most as "Cutter". As many of you know Bill has written books on retriever training and has developed some of the best dogs in North America.
Bill and Bumper Boy came together when Brick Hejlik showed Bill how his dog's marking, focus and desire were improving. After months of analyzing, they revealed that Bumper Boy's high marks, perfect throws, and sound system provide a superior method for developing marking dogs than could be developed by the use of human assistance.
Bill's win came on the heels of a win in the 2002 competition. To top it off, he came within a whisker of capturing the 2004 event, placing second. |

Super Retriever
Clint Johnson and Savannah Win the inaugural event of the ESPN 2004 Super Retriever Series.
Trained daily on Bumperboy, Savannah was the only dog in the October competition to finish the difficult test, having to locate a distant well hidden mark and retrieve a tough double blind on the way to the win. Conditions during the three day event were challenging to say the least, with searing temperatures and strong winds wreaking havoc on competitors. It was one of the toughest setups in years.
Training partner Shawnna Johnson says, "We really love using Bumperboy products. Our dogs really do advance using them, especially when our bird boys and girls have other things to do!"
Congratulations to the Johnsons and Savannah.

Amateur bests Pros
We certainly are proud of Harriett Clark and Daisy of Sutherlin, South Carolina who won the Open division of the National Boykin Spaniel Open Hunting Retriever Championships held in Buffalo, SC. Her victory was unique in that Daisy was handled by Harriett, who is an amateur in a division which historically has been won by professional dog trainers.
The tests simulate hunting situations in which the dogs retrieve ducks and pigeons on land and water. Says Harriett, "Bumperboy worked for us!"

This photo was taken of the Qualifying (30 dogs) placements at the American Chesapeake Club 2004 National Field Trial Specialty last fall in Cascade, Idaho. From the left, the second place dog is my "Maggie" (Delmarva's Maggie Mae***) with Linda Norton (my female companion) and the 3rd place one is "Sunny" (Crossfire's LC Smith**) with me. Both the first place dog (far left) and the fourth place dog (far right) are pro trained. |

Owner Trained Chesapeakes Running the All-Age Stakes this Year
I work property and casualty insurance claims in a very large geographic area in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. Weather permitting, my dogs are on my truck most days when traveling and I have access to some wonderful retriever training. The Bumper Boys are as important to me as my laptop, cell phone and digital camera. They have allowed me to pursue this hobby (retriever field training) in some breath taking scenery high in the Colorado mountains during spring, summer and fall while training most of the time by myself. Thank you!!
