Customer Service and Support
At Bumper Boy, we continue to strive to provide the best customer service in the industry. 100% customer satisfaction is our primary goal.
Electronics: The first step is to test your electronics to ensure the transmitter and receiver are working properly, and are communicating with each other.
Test the communication between the transmitter and receiver
- Ensure the Bumper Boy is unloaded.
- Arm/On the transmitter and push the toggle on the receiver to "on."
- Watch the receiver.
- Push the "launch" button for that unit.
- The receiver's red "on" light will blink. If not, the electronics are not communicating. Call Bumper Boy.
Please see our "Communication Between Electronics" video.
Other Electronics FAQs:
My transmitter stopped working. There are no lights on my transmitter.
My receiver stopped working. There are no lights on my receiver.
I left my electronics in water and they stopped working.
If your unit is not firing properly, you must check several things:
- Proper Lubrication
- Programming
- Connections and Servo Testing
- Battery power
- Short Range
Proper Lubrication: To ensure your Bumper Boy operates smoothly, you must lubricate your unit.
1) Using the packet of lubrication that comes with your bumper boy, lubricate the o-ring on each barrel. The amount of lubrication depends on how often you use the unit, but normally your should lubricate 1-2 times every two weeks. Doing so allows the bumper to fire more smoothly.
2) Using dry graphite, spray once on the trigger and once on the inside of the barrel. You should lubricate about once every 2 weeks depending how often you use your Bumper Boy.
Please see our "Maintenance and Spare Parts" video
Programming: Please click here to view a Bumper Boy Owner's Guide or see our "Programming Bumper Boy Launcher" video.
Connections and Servo Testing:
The servo arm moves backwards or barely moves at all or doesn't move.
One of my firing mechanisms won't fire.
Battery Power:
My transmitter won't hold a charge.
My receiver won't hold a charge.
My sound doesn't work.
Short Range: Please see our troubleshooting video "Short Range."
The range on my electronics won't go past 40 yards.
The bumper doesn't go very far.

My transmitter stopped working. There are no lights on my transmitter.
Take out the battery for 10 minutes to restart the transmitter. If it still does not work, try a new battery. Does the low-battery light blink when it is on the charger? If not, the problem could be the battery charger.

There are no lights on my receiver.
Is the unit charged? Does the low-battery light blink when it is on the charger? If not, the problem could be the battery charger. Try replacing the battery. It could also be an internal issue - give Bumper Boy a call.

I left my electronics in water and they stopped working.
Take out the battery and try replacing it. It is likely that water infiltrated the battery. If it is very wet, take out the screws in the electronics, taking the case apart, and let it air-dry. If it sat in dirty water, run clean water over it, then let it dry. If it still doesn't work after you've cleaned it, let it dry, and put in a new battery, call Bumper Boy.

The servo arm moves backwards or barely moves at all or doesn't move.
It could be one of several things. It is most likely a connection or a servo issue.
- Is your receiver loosely mounted in such a way that it can be moved up and down? If not, loosen it.
- To check the connection from the wiring harness to the receiver, take the wiring harness plug out of the receiver. Are all silver pins at the top of the plug, at an equal level? Push the wires up, so that they are all at the same level, and so there is no pull on the wires. Test.
Please see our "Loose Wiring Harness" video.
- If the same problem occurs, you must check the connection from the wiring harness to the servo. Make cuts near the square plug that is under the heatshrink. Pull off the heatshrink, and unplug the square plug. The three pins on the wiring harness plug should be the same long length. If they are not, it means a wire was pulled, so you must use pliers to pull out the pin so that it is the same long length as the others. Plug the servo back in so it is white wire to white wire, and test.
Please see our "Connection Issues" video.
- If the same problem occurs, using your spare parts kit, test the connection with a new servo to see if the servo was the problem. If so, replace the servo. If not, check the wiring harness for any nicks or cuts. If there are, you will need a new wiring harness. Finally, the issue could be an internal electronics problem, and you should give Bumper Boy a call.

My transmitter won't hold a charge.
Does the low-battery light blink when it is on the charger? If not, the problem could be the battery charger. Use a volt-meter to check- it should be emitting about 17 volts. If it does flash, change the battery with a 9-volt. My receiver won't hold a charge Does the low-battery light blink when it is on the charger? If not, the problem could be the battery charger. Use a volt-meter to check- it should be emitting about 17 volts. If it does flash, replace the receiver battery.

My sound doesn't work.
Is the unit charged? The sound is the first thing to stop working when the battery on the receiver is low. It is also possible that the unit may be programmed incorrectly. Try re-synchronizing it. If it still doesn't work, it's possible that the speaker is broken. You can purchase a new speaker from Bumper Boy.

The range on my electronics won't go past 40 yards.
When did you last change the battery? Low power could be an issue. The antenna may be broken, or it may have been over-tightened, breaking the antenna's connection to the board. If the antenna connector is broken, it must be sent in for repair.
Please see our "Short Range" troubleshooting video.

The bumper doesn't go very far.
Are you lubricating the entire barrel? The grease can cause the bumper to stick. Clean it off, and only lubricate the o-ring. There may be dirt inside the bumper, clean it. What type of shells are you using? (We recommend using Yellow power Wadded shells). Crimped shells can leave residue behind. Since there may be residue in the breach, shoot a round without loading bumpers on the unit. Also use a 22 calibre gun brush to clean the breach.
Please see our "Spare Parts and Maintenance" video for the proper way to lubriate your Bumper Boy.

The firing mechanism won't cock.
Please see our troubleshooting video "The Firing Mechanism Won't Cock."
The reason the firing mechanism won't cock is that the servo arm is not returning properly, and it is in the way of the cocking handle. You must move the servo arm. It may also be caused by a servo issue. Please click here to test the servo.

I have an older unit, and the servo arm is not hitting the firing mechanism.
Those who own older generation units should be aware that if your unit has
servos that are mounted in the center of the firing mechanism (versus off to
the right), you may need to adjust the new servo's arm. This has to do with
changes in the electronics in the new generation of Bumper Boys.
New servos come with the arm angled out the side of the servo. What you must
do is unscrew the servo arm, then reset the servo by switching the receiver
toggle to "program" mode. Manually reposition the arm so it is over the body
of the servo, then screw it back in. This will cause the arm to hit the
firing pin properly.
